With Halloween just around the corner, you might be wondering if it’s even a good idea to take some time away from studying to celebrate. This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday, so the question shouldn’t be can you do something, but what will you be doing?! Med school means you are constantly stressing, so why not let yourself have a night off and have some fun? Since it’s getting closer to the day, I’m here to help with some costume ideas. Here are some great ones for med students to enjoy. 1) Bringer of bad news This can happen in your field, so why not make a costume out of it? Wrap yourself in newspaper, and ta-da, you have a costume. It’s punny, so people will have to guess what you are. If you want to get more in-depth with it, you can fashion the newspapers into actual clothes, and have articles that only present bad situations on the front. Make it a game to see how many people guess correctly. 2) Doctor Well, you want to be this in the future, and you have plenty of outfits handy at your school, so why not go for the “what I want to be when I grow up” costume? You could get some friends to do it with you, and have some people dress up as nurses to go along with it. You can have cool props, and can add fake blood to yourself if you want to make it more dramatic. Maybe watch the first season of “American Horror Story” for some inspiration on how to be a creepy doctor who keeps random human (fake) body parts in jars. Maybe you could even carry around some of the rubber gloves and blow them up for people. Clown doctor? I think yes. And yes, you can also take this one into the route of sexy doctor/nurse, because why not? 3) Periodic table If you have a big group of people, why not go as parts of the periodic table? You could each spell out funny things on your shirts, kind of how they use the elements in Breaking Bad, and it would be a way to show off your nerdy, smart side. If you could somehow get enough people for the whole table, you’d definitely make it onto some websites for creativity. Who knows, some people might learn a thing or two from studying your group! 4) Box of Nerds People might call you a nerd, so why not embrace it? It will be a funny play-on-words, since you are being a candy, and will be pretty original. You could either dress up as a box of Nerds, or have you and a friend play the pink and purple animated Nerds that come out of the candy box. 5) Zombie Zombies are great because they are easy, and you can use your knowledge of anatomy to have guts spilling out of you in all the right places. Simply get some clothes that you don’t care to get dirty, and have fun with it. You can get someone to give you some awesome face make-up, and there are tons of tutorials online to help you have a weapon poking out of your arm or something crazy like that. 6) Big Bang Theory gang Everyone loves “Big Bang Theory,” so why not get some friends together and be the whole crew? It will give you an excuse to sound insanely pretentious against everyone else, and if you want to take it a step further, you can be the Doppler effect that Sheldon was in the Halloween episode. Everyone who watches the show would get a good laugh from it, and those would be easy costumes, you just have to work on some acting skills and remember some key phrases. 7) The Operation game guy Since you are practicing to be a doctor, why not be the guy who always gets operated on? You would need a red nose, some Velcro organs, and a buzzer. This would be very creative, and would make people pay a lot of attention to you and try and get the weird things out of your body without you buzzing at them. 8) The medic from Team Fortress 2 If you love video games, then this one is a great costume for you. You get to be a crazy doctor that may have some strange methods of “helping” people. Either be the medic by yourself or have a group be the whole Team Fortress gang. Maybe you can have your weapon shoot silly string or something fun like that. 9) Superhero Doctors are superheroes, so why not dress the part? You have tons of heroes to choose from, and it gives you an excuse to wear tights. Source
