If you pay the doctor a visit in the United States, there is a 25 percent chance that he or she was trained abroad. Immigrant and foreign-trained doctors actually account for a significant share of healthcare professionals across developed nations. Many of them come from Asia, according to the OECD, and from India in particular.

Israel has the most foreign-trained physicians by far – 58 percent. This highlights both the importance of immigration to the country and the growing number of people born in Israel who are studying at medical schools abroad. According to the OECD, one third of native-born Israelis with a license to practice medicine attained it abroad. New Zealand comes second for foreign-trained doctors with 42.6 percent.
