Many breast cancer patients get mastectomies as part of their treatment. Some people also choose to get mastectomies electively — for example, as a preventative surgery if they have the BRCA genetic mutation that greatly increases their odds of developing breast cancer (Angelina Jolie made this choice). Many mastectomy patients are left with scars and without nipples, even if they choose to get reconstruction. One solution for some people: artistic ink over those scars. Source
