One brand, Lip Venom, is supposed to engorge your lips by increasing circulation with a "spicy, tingly blend" of essential oils. Perhaps then you could look like this woman, Priscilla Russo. Double Eyelid Some women with almond-shaped eyed wish they had rounder eyes - and opt for eyelid surgery that gives their eyelids an extra fold of skin. Other go for a temporary fix, like eyelid tape or glue. The tape is less than comfortable, and both glue and tape can cause irritation. Dental Grills Most people think of grills as things to cook on. But the term also refers to the dazzling tooth covers used by some who simply aren't thrilled with their own pearly whites. The covers - often jewel-encrusted gold or silver - can cause allergic reactions, tooth decay, bad breath, and more. Dental bling - or blunder? Corsets Corsets are coming back - and some women are pulling the strings good and tight. We're not talking about that cute little corset top you can pick up at the department store - we're talking heavy-duty, it's-hard-to-breathe corseting. Seems some people find pleasure in the pain. Scrotum Reduction Some men are so self-conscious about a sagging scrotum that they seek out scrotum reduction. The surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis in as little as 30 minutes, according to the website of Dr. Boris Volsheteyn, a Reno, Nev., surgeon who performs the procedure. But like any surgery, scrotoplasty can result in pain and infection. The procedure can even affect the sperm. Neck Rings Long, swan-like necks used to be de rigeur for women in parts of southeast Asia and Africa. The practice - which relies on elegant metal neck rings - has fallen out of favor but hasn't died out completely. In Chiang Mai, Thailand, for example, tourists sometimes pay to photograph the "long-neck" Padaung women. Leg Extension Would you let your legs be broken in order to gain a few inches of height? Believe it or not, men and women in China used to pay to have their leg bones sawed in half and then stretched apart - over the course of a year or so - with adjustable leg braces. If that sounds appealing, you might be too late: China reportedly outlawed the practice in 2006 after a series of botched jobs. Rib Resection For some women who crave a sexy hourglass shape, weight loss and even tummy tucks aren't enough. So they have their lower ribs removed. "Rib resection" is major surgery, involving hospitalization and the risk of infection. And there's no going back once the job is done. As Los Angeles-based plastic surgeon Dr. Aaron Stone explains on his website, "The ribs do not grow back." Eyelash Augmentation "Since the time of Cleopatra, women have known that lengthening the eyelashes makes them more attractive," says Dr. Anthony Napoleon, a clinical psychologist with a special interest in body image. But while mascara and fake eyelashes merely create the illusion of luxuriant lashes, a prescription lotion called Latisse grows real lashes. Too bad the drug can cause "increased brown iris pigmentation," according to Consumer Reports. Maybe the drug should come with blue-tinted contact lenses. These colored contact lenses, long popular in Korea, extend past the pupils and onto the whites of the eyes. Though illegal in the U.S., they're widely available over the Internet. CBS Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton says they're dangerous - mainly because contacts that haven't been properly fitted by a doctor can raise the risk for infection. Brazilian Keratin Treatment Some curly heads have fallen in love with the BKT - the Brazilian keratin treatment. No, not that kind of Brazilian - it's for straightening the hair on your head. The key ingredient is formaldehyde. Is it safe? In a recent appearance on CBS' "The Early Show," Dr. Ellen Marmur, a dermatologist at New York's Mount Sinai Medical Center, raised red flags about potential dangers, including eye and throat irritation. At least one death has been linked to the hair-straightening treatment. Skin Bleaching Ever tried to bleach away freckles or scars? Skin bleach products are supposed to be safe, but a recent investigation by the Chicago Tribune found that some contain high levels of mercury, which is toxic. Perianal Bleaching The perineum is the area around the anus and, in women, the vagina, an area that tends to darken with age. Some people are blissfully unaware of the discoloration. Others turn back the clock by turning up at the offices of doctors who offer bleaching.
