Sandeep Jauhar, MD, discusses his memoir, Intern: A Doctor’s Initiation, which is based on his life as a resident at New York Weill Cornell, one of the top teaching hospitals in New York City. Dr. Jauhar began writing for The New York Times during his internship, and Intern is the culmination of the stories and experiences from what many young physicians consider the most tumultuous and stressful time of their careers.

He gives 4 reasons why young doctors-in-training should record their experiences:

    1) Everything you see is new and unique

    2) You have a fresh perspective on what it means to be a doctor

    3) It is a stressful, demanding environment

    4) All this mixes into a creative maelstrom
