Two caring police officers in the Netherlands have been praised after staying behind to look after the children when their mum was taken ill

An act of kindness by two Dutch police officers has been widely praised after their photo was shared on Facebook.

Two police officers in Eindhoven took care of five young children when their mother was rushed to hospital after suffering a hypoglycaemic attack.

They stayed in the house and cooked a snack for the siblings until they were able to get in contact with someone who would be able to look after them until their mother got better.

The Facebook picture, with the caption ‘another side of police work’, has been viewed by more than 100,000 people since it was uploaded.

"Last week my colleagues received a notification in Woensel-Noord. An ambulance was called because a woman had a hypo; she had low blood sugar levels," says the Facebook post.

"The woman was driven to the hospital, but there were still five young children in the home.

"Because the policemen had to wait a little longer before they could hand the children over to someone and they hadn't eaten, the officers made them something to eat.

"The officers made them fried egg sandwiches and some fruit. Then, of course, they did the dishes."

One impressed Facebook user commented: "Great job guys. Way to show true humanity!"
Another added: "Awesome job Gentlemen! Priceless moment!"

PC Stu Ockwell came to the aid of Fred Thomson and his wife after she called 999 to say that they were lonely

Once an elderly couple called 999 because they were lonely and officers responded by going round for a cup of tea.

"The police are very civil sort of people anyway as you would expect. I was very pleased to know there was help available and pleased to talk to them, because sometimes you can be a bit isolated as you get older, but they made me feel at home," said 95-year-old Fred Thomson.
