For some, the chance of COVID-19 vaccination saving their life just isn’t enough to sway them into getting it. But you know what might? Cars. Cars and cash. Amazon knows this, so they’ve begun a new lottery system to convince their 1.3-million-person workforce to get vaccinated. If a worker can prove their vaccine status, they will be entered in a raffle offering two cash prizes of $500,000, six of $100,000, five brand new cars, and five vacations, according to Bloomberg. The new push comes in as an alternative to mandatory vaccination, which Amazon would rather avoid. As the Delta variant continues to spread throughout the US, it is clear a new approach is needed. “We strongly believe that the best way to protect our front-line employees and communities from Covid-19 is through vaccinations,” Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel told Bloomberg. “And we are proud to have hosted more than 1,100 on-site vaccination events to help make getting a vaccination as easy as possible for our employees and their household members.” With the ever-increasing tide of misinformation, officials are constantly turning to alternative methods to keep people interested in staying alive. Washington is beginning an initiative where young people getting the vaccine will get a free pair of AirPods, and in May the Governor of Ohio was giving away a chance to win $1,000,000 by getting vaccinated.
