Which job positions command the most respect in the United States? The Harris Poll recently released a ranking of the nation’s most prestigious professions in 2016 with doctor coming in at number one. Nine out of every 10 American adults see doctor as a prestigious profession with older generations in particular holding it in high regard. Nine out of 10 adults would also encourage a child to pursue a career in medicine while a mere three out of 10 would encourage their kids to pursue a political career. The survey also found that scientists come second in the prestige stakes, with 83 percent of respondents rating the profession as prestigious. Firefighters round off the top three with 80 percent while military officers and engineers complete the top five. Source
