This question was originally posted on Quora.com and was answered by Christopher Fox, Orthopedic surgeon/spine surgeon Surgery. No patient has a clue about surgery. Well a few do, but most don’t. We strip you naked (not for our fun or laughs), position you, keep you from being injured and then cut you open. We are pretty good at doing it without you knowing a clue. We generally make you better because if not we would be out of a job. YOU HAVE NOT A CLUE about the surgical environment. It is so tightly controlled and protective of you as a slab of meat that NOTHING bad happens. We are pretty good at helping people but it is really hard. We do our best. We really do. 99% of the time no one knows. The nurses, techs, anesthesiologists are never recognized. They do their jobs every day without fail. The surgeon gets the credit and the blame…. Realize there is a team. A whole team. Thank you to my team. They made me look good. Source
