Among treatment-seeking older men, this cross-sectional study was performed to examine the link between non-neurogenic lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and frailty. Men age 65 years and older visiting an academic urology practice between December 2015 and March 2019 were included in this study, excluding those with cancer, neurologic disease, indwelling catheter, or continuous leakage. Cases with overactive bladder (OAB), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), mixed OAB/BPH, or non-LUTS urologic condition were included. The participants were asked to finish a Timed-Up-and-Go-Test (TUGT) which was employed to divide men as fast (≤ 10s), intermediate (11-14s), or slow (≥ 15s). Findings demonstrated that increased odds of slow TUGT time (a surrogate of frailty) was observed in correlation with LUTS diagnosis, particularly OAB, vs non-LUTS conditions. In this study, older men with LUTS commonly exhibited frailty and therefore, consideration should be given to frailty during the initial urological assessment.
