In this study, the relationship of carbohydrate quality with all-cause mortality was explored using a single, multidimensional carbohydrate quality index (CQI) designed to account for multiple characteristics of carbohydrate quality. Researchers performed a prospective study among 19,083 participants (age range: 18-91 years) in the Seguimiento Universidad de Navarra Project, a Mediterranean cohort of middle-aged university graduates. Four-hundred forty deaths occurred during 12.2 years of median follow-up. It was reported that CQI as a whole, but none of its individual dimensions, was correlated with lower mortality. As per the findings, CQI likes to comprehensively capture the combined impacts of quality domains.
