Baby Fidelis Muthoni who suffered a frontal bone defect has had successful surgery in Canada. Fidelis underwent reconstructive surgery on Tuesday for the defect known as Encephalocele, Irene Njoroge, a nurse at St Joseph' s Health Centre in Canada said. "We give glory to God for baby Fidelis! After a very long wait, she has come out of the OR awake and breathing on her own. Doctors say the surgery was a success!" Her father Kenneth Kinuthia confirmed Fidelis went to the theatre but he is yet to get communication on the results of the operation. Kinuthia told the Star on Wednesday the baby and her mother are being accommodated by a well-wisher in Canada as she receives treatment. Fidelis is expected back to the country in February 2016, as doctors monitor her healing process, Kinuthia said. Baby Fidelis who hails from Makuyu in Murang’a county, left the country in August for her treatment that was scheduled to take six months. Her plight was highlighted following her parents appeal to raise money after they were conned out of Sh2.8 million by an NGO. Joseph "Alejandro" Wanjau, the founder of Hope Foundation was charged with theft after he set up a fund to collect the cash then declined to release it to Fidelis' parents. On August 22, State House intervened and helped the family secure travel documents, while President Uhuru Kenyatta donated Sh500,000 for air tickets and Governor Mwangi Wairia giving Sh300,000 for accommodation.
