Though PhysicianSense typically advocates for frugality, we recently encouraged you to treat yourself (wisely). It’s undeniable that a few well-made splurge purchases can have a powerful effect on your wellbeing and productivity. The products on this new list are more than luxury goods and Black Friday deals. In order to be featured, they had to enhance a doctor’s practice or make a doctor more efficient (in practice or in personal life). With Black Friday (Nov. 29) almost upon us, now is a good time to save on these purchases.

Lucky for you, Amazon has already rolled out some of its Black Friday deals, with others debuting on Friday, Nov. 22, giving you an extra week to shop and save. We combed through the active deals to identify the best Black Friday deals for doctors. Here’s what we found.

Disclosure: The following post includes purchase recommendations and uses affiliate links to Amazon products, allowing us to receive commission for purchases. These suggestions are our own.

If your old phone is slowing you down, it’s time to ditch it in favor of a newer, faster model. But, bad news if you’re looking to save some money on the new iPhone Pro. Sorry, but it just isn’t going to happen. If you can live with an older model (and there’s very little reason you can’t), then you’re in luck. Amazon is offering Black Friday deals on unlocked versions of the iPhone XS ($683) and iPhone XR ($488.49). While you won’t get the same features and quality with the camera in the XS as you will with the Pro, photos will be comparable. If the camera isn’t as important to you, you can save almost $200 by going with the XR.

    Smarthome Hubs
There’s an undeniable level of convenience that comes from streamlining how you manage your home. If you’re OK with purchasing the third-generation version, you can save $50 on an Amazon Echo Plus ($99). You’ll have a high-quality speaker for your tunes, plus the convenience of built-in Alexa management of any internet-connected cameras, thermostats, garage doors, fans, TVs, locks, and smart plugs in your house.

The same logic that applies to your phone also applies to your laptop: If it’s slowing you down, it’s costing you money. In the Apple vs. PC battle, we tend to skew toward Apple for one simple reason: Their products seem to work as intended more often than not, and they tend to do so for longer than their PC counterparts. PCs also tend to be more vulnerable to malware, which can prove costly for a physician. So, if you’re looking to score a deal on a new laptop, Amazon is featuring Black Friday sales on the Macbook Air ($999) and Macbook Pro ($1,999). The Air can handle all of your basic computing needs, but if you’re looking for something to use at work, you might want the additional processing power of the Pro.

It should come as no surprise to you that health is wealth. And when it comes to managing health, it’s helpful to have data. Wearable health-monitoring devices go a long way in helping your patients take control of their wellbeing. Why not harness their power yourself? You’ll find Amazon Black Friday deals on Apple Watch Series 3 ($169) and Series 4 ($329). While you’ll save a little more with the Series 3, physicians might want to opt for the Series 4, which has the enhanced ECG and heart rate monitoring capabilities. For those who aren’t interested in Apple products, you can also score a good deal on the Fitbit Versa ($149.95), which features built in Amazon Alexa integration.

    Home Security
This Black Friday deal, which goes live on Friday, Nov. 22, might give you peace of mind. Unfortunately, the holiday season often results in a spike in burglaries. In the age of Amazon Prime, it’s also a prime time for opportunistic thieves to steal packages from your doorstep. This Friday, you can purchase the Ring video monitoring system along with an Echo Show 5 for $149.99.

Never underestimate the transformative power of music. Maybe you need some fresh tunes in your OR or office. Or perhaps you could use a little lift on your commute. Right now, you can get 4 months of Amazon Music Unlimited for $0.99. After that, the price goes up to $9.99 per month. Stream tunes of your choosing from nearly any internet-connected device.

This is another deal that isn’t live yet, but will be available Friday, Nov. 22. The OG Kindle Paper White will cost you $84.99. Use the device to substitute your destructive smartphone addiction with a more constructive reading addiction. The latest version of the Kindle Paper White is waterproof, has double the amount of storage, and can store and organize your notes and highlights.
