Researchers aimed at comparing the effects of cognitive‐behavioral therapy (CBT) vs yoga on late‐life worry, anxiety, and sleep and to investigate the preference and selection effects on these outcomes. They randomized 500 older adults, who scored 26 or above on the Penn State Worry Questionnaire‐Abbreviated, to the randomized trial (125 each in CBT and yoga) or the preference trial (120 chose CBT; 130 chose yoga). CBT involved 10 weekly telephone sessions and yoga involved 20 biweekly group yoga classes. Outcomes support the effectiveness of both CBT and yoga in reducing late‐life worry and anxiety. However, CBT had a greater impact relative to yoga for improving sleep. No effect of either preference or selection was noted.
