Palm reading is a pretty big thing here in Japan, so big that 37 people have apparently parted with the grand sum of ?100,000 to improve their potential lot in life. How does it work, a plastic surgeon at the Shonan Beauty Clinic (SBC) uses an electric scalpel to burn the flesh of the palms of the patient to create new hand lines. The procedure takes between 10 to 15 minutes and the wounds take around a month to heal, and must be bandaged for the whole time. Matsuoka noted that men usually wished to change lines related to business success, such as the fate line, money-luck line and the financial line. Women, on the other hand, were most concerned with the marriage line. Takaaki Matsuoka, vice president of SBC noted that the surgery might not actually change the fate of his patients but that he believed that it may benefit them by way of placebo effect. According to Matsuoka, no less than 37 palm line surgeries were performed at SBC i from January 2011 to May 2013 – which amounts to a relatively modest total of $37,000 – that is not exactly enough to live on, but consider this: if each of those surgeries took 15 minutes then it took him around six hours to “earn” his money, which translates to about $6,166.66 (recurring) per hour for his troubles. But this is truly the peak of craziness and unbelievable thatpeople are going through palm surgery to change their palm lines and manipulate fate and destiny.
