A plastic surgeon who filmed herself singing and dancing around the operating table as she performed procedures was accused of leaving a patient with “catastrophic” brain damage. Dr. Windell Davis Boutte uploaded over 20 clips of herself prancing around next to patients while singing along to hip-hop tunes. She even sliced someone open for the camera as “Cut It” by O.T. Genasis blared out in the background. Icilma Cornelius suffered heart failure after being pushed into having a pre-wedding tummy tuck at Boutte’s clinic in Lilburn, Georgia, in February 2016, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The 55-year-old’s heart stopped eight hours into the procedure, but Boutte’s office was not equipped to handle the medical emergency and had to call an ambulance. Paramedics restarted her heart but were delayed in putting her into the ambulance because Boutte had to stitch her skin back together to try to prevent her open wounds from getting infected. They hit a further snag when the stretcher wouldn’t fit in the elevator, forcing them to carry Cornelius down the stairs. When she finally got to the hospital, doctors diagnosed her with permanent brain damage from lack of oxygen. She was left severely disabled and will require care for the rest of her life. Her son Ojay Liburd, 26, filed a lawsuit against Boutte following the diagnosis. He said: “She just wanted to be perfect for her wedding dress. She had everything going for her.” The case has now been settled for an undisclosed amount. Separately, a pair of sisters, Mitzi McFarland and Kristine Dolly, also filed suit against Boutte, after they visited her hoping to have a laser lipo procedure offered on her website. But instead, they underwent a traditional invasive liposuction procedure and were appalled at the results. McFarland told local Georgia TV station WSBTV2: “It’s more like Freddy Krueger cut my stomach.” Dolly added: I don’t feel like a normal person. I just feel deformed.” Another patient told how she woke up after surgery in a hotel room with a McDonald’s sandwich in her hand. Boutte, who has settled five malpractice suits in the last four months, with four more pending, is still working as a cosmetic surgeon. Source
