    Correct answer:

    Indeed, it's a branch retinal vein occlusion.

    The pathofysiology isn't entirely clear. There are obviously some 'simple' ideas like hypertensive or inflammatory damage to the endothelial cells, but it seems the most common cause of BRVO is arterial compression of the vein (the vein and the artery share a common adventitial sheath; that's were the compression should take place).
