    Correct answer:

    Yes, it's kwashiorkor.

    A form of protein energy malnutrition (PEM). The edema is caused by insufficient nutrient intake. Perhaps not as you would think, but it's actually more serious than marasmus, because unlike marasmus patients kwashiorkor patients are unable to consume protein, which obviously is unfavourable when food is scarce.
