Researchers here investigated the influence of various patient characteristics on COVID-19 severity and risk of death in a cancer population. They assessed a total of 156 cancer patients with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 between February 29 to May 12, 2020. During median follow-up of 37 days, death because of COVID-19 (22%) was reported for 34 patients. Among these cancer patients, they observed a positive correlation of Asian ethnicity with COVID-19 death compared with Caucasian patients. However, no association of socioeconomic status with COVID-19 severity or risk of death was observed thereby implying that this was not because of poor access to healthcare.
