A pregnant woman mistakenly received an abortion at a South Korea clinic after staff mixed up her medical chart, according to reports.

The Vietnamese patient was 6 weeks pregnant on Aug. 7 when she visited a Gagseo medical center for nutritional shots, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

But at the clinic, there was a mix-up with the medical charts and a nurse injected her with anesthesia without confirming her identity, Yonhap reported. The doctor then performed the abortion while the unaware patient was under anesthesia.

The next day, the woman returned to the clinic after experiencing bleeding and was told that her child was aborted, the Korean Herald reported.

Police announced on Monday that the doctor and nurse are under investigation for professional negligence, CNN reported. The case will soon be sent to the prosecutor’s office, police said.

South Korea legalized abortion in April but the law doesn’t go into effect until Dec. 31, 2020.

Under current law, a woman can only receive an abortion when she became pregnant through rape or incest, when she or her partner have certain diseases, or if the pregnancy jeopardizes her health.
