As one of the more popular social media sites available today, Instagram is one way to keep track of the people you like and follow and see what’s happening with their lives. Easy to use and accessible, it’s used by millions of people across the globe, who share photos of everything from vacations, to selfies, to pets, to photos of their significant others and family, and even their own art. The sky is the limit when it comes to posting photos on the site.

But we can only see too many photos of our friends’ silhouettes against sunsets before we get bored, so why not spice it up a bit? For the science-minded and curious, here are five Instagram accounts that should shake up the usual #TBTs and #OOTDs:

    1. Nikon Instruments – At the moment, this account still doesn’t have that many followers. But don’t let that deter you, since this account is charming all the same. Ran by Nikon, this account is filled with pictures of microscopy, enhancing everything from tiny brain fibers to close-ups of creepy crawlies.
    2. All the NASA accounts – Not only is NASA a great space agency, but they’re also great at handling their social medias. There’s NASA Earth Observatory and NASA’s Chandra X-Ray Observatory, to name a couple.
    3. The Monterey Bay Aquarium – For those who love all sorts of sea life but can’t go to the zoo, this account has you covered. Located in California, the aquarium is doing amazing work with its conservation efforts. And that for us, means all the bird, fish and sea otter pictures that our feed can handle.
    4. ZooBorns – If you ever feel like your feed is failing to scratch that baby animal itch, then this account is perfect for you. Filled with pictures of baby animals from all the world’s best zoos, the blog-turned-IG-page prides itself in only announcing births for both accredited zoos and aquariums.
    5. ScienceAlert – Branding itself as a general science account, this particular one posts daily images related to all sorts of science-y stuff, while also providing updates about the latest scientific stories and trends.
