New Orleans officials are hellbent on finding the gunman who shot the Tulane University medical student who was trying to save a woman being accosted.

“We’re going to find you, we’re going to prosecute you and you’re going to spend the rest of your life behind bars,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said Sunday after cops identified the shooter earlier in the day.

Police identified Euric Cain, 21, as the cold-blooded gunman seen in the chilling video they released Saturday of the incident that unfolded early Friday.

The minute-and-a-half video shows Cain dragging a girl down Magazine Street when an SUV pulls up.

The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Peter Gold, tries to stop the man — who whips out a semi-automatic weapon, demanding that Gold give him money as he holds a gun to his head.

But when the fourth-year Tulane medical student says he doesn’t have any cash on him, the crazed gunman fires a shot into Gold’s gut, police said.

Cain tries to shoot twice more — once attempting an execution-style head shot — but fails because of a gun jam.

The shooter was caught on camera snatching the female victim’s purse before taking off in a silver SUV.

Gold is recovering at a local hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery. The woman was treated for minor injuries.

Friends hailed Gold as a hero, saying he is a selfless guy who likes to help others.

“Doesn’t surprise me that he would have pulled over his car and attempted to save somebody,” Ryan O’Halloran, one of his classmates at Tulane, told ABC News. “He’s a great guy.”

Tulane University and the police department are offering a $12,500 reward for any information about the shooter, who is still on the run.
