It is so true that good food is one of the most important factors in order for a holiday meeting to succeed. But we all know that holiday sweets, snacks, dips, beverages etc. are high in calories. This is why most people gain weight during holidays. One other reason is because people tend to exaggerate themselves when they eat or drink in holiday celebrations. Don't fall on that category! Instead here are 7 tips to help you lose weight during holiday time:

    1. Eat small portions. Try a variety of foods.
The idea is simple. If you eat small portions of each food available then you can try all of the offered foods instead of only the healthy ones. Spoil yourself but just a little.

    2. Alcohol helps in gaining weight.
You've heard it so many times. Drinks with alcohol usually contain lots of sugars and they are so fattening. If you want to drink, at least prefer white, transparent (e.g vodka) drinks instead of colored ones (e.g. whiskey).

    3. Stay away from High Carbohydrate foods.
Try to stay away from white breads, sugary cakes, potatoes, cookies etc. Go for the whole wheat, multi-grain, raw sugar etc. Sure, it's not the same as loading up on all the 'bad-for-you' foods, but you'll be glad you did a month later.

    4. Do not eat after 8 p.m.
This is a secret rule that many diet experts recommend. Do not eat after 8 p.m. But unfortunately many holiday gatherings take place after that time! What you can do is attend the gathering with mid-full stomach. If you don't want to insult other people in the party, eat something healthy like a fruit or salad or drink some natural juice.

    5. Drink a lot of water.
Another well known secret to many people. Drink at least 10 glasses of water every day and it will help you reduce weight and also stabilize your metabolism. We are 80% water remember? And if you are about to drink alcohol, you must follow the golden rule: For every glass of alcoholic drink you must have at least 3 full glasses of reviving water.

    6. Go for grocery shopping with a full stomach.
How else can you resist all those fattening foods that appear in front of your eyes in the supermarket shelves? If you are not hungry you can make wiser (and healthier) food choices.

    7. Plan an outdoor activity every week.
Things like cutting down your own Christmas Tree, shopping for gifts, walking through the park or on the beach. cooking holiday cookies, skiing, skating, wind-surfing, playing football in the back-yard, collecting pine cones or creating some simple bird feeders with bird seeds and peanut butter and any other activities you can think of.
