But this compound has more benefits than just wound care. From treating minor cuts to helping prevent a serious health problem, H2O2 can help improve your health in many ways.

    Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide

    Potential Stroke Treatment

A new study, published in the British Journal of Pharmacology, suggested that the colorless liquid could help reduce the effects of stroke. Researchers from Italy found that H2O2 can be a good source of oxygen for the patient’s brain tissue, according to DrAxe.com.

However, more human studies are required to support the findings. But the research team said H2O2 has the potential to be a new type of therapy for stroke patients.

    Teeth Whitening

You can also use H2O2 for your oral hygiene. In fact, many mouthwash and toothpaste products contain the compound because of its dental benefits.

H2O2 can help whiten your teeth. To use the liquid at home as a mouthwash, dilute 3 percent bottle with equal parts water. Do not swallow the solution and wash your mouth.

    Hair Treatment

H2O2 can be used as a bleaching agent. For those trying to get a new look, the liquid can lighten or highlight hair. Mix H2O2 with water and use a spray bottle to get a new hair color.

    For Your Laundry

To make your white clothes brighter and easily remove stains, add H2O2 while doing your laundry. You can use this compound for bleaching and to eliminate unpleasant smell.

Add a cup of H2O2 into washing machine or mix it with baking soda for more whitening effect.

    Side Effects of Hydrogen Peroxide

Despite having a number of health and household benefits, H2O2 has side effects that could harm your eyes and skin. It can disrupt healthy cells in the skin and cause irritation.

Ingesting H2O2 can also be poisonous. One study showed than hundreds of deaths linked to the liquid also involved respiratory distress, stroke, seizure, altered mental status and pulmonary embolism.
