India: Medical Students Stripped Naked by Seniors at Kerala College

The victims complained that the seniors forced them to strip and clean toilets at the men's hostel attached to the hospital

In a shocking ragging incident in the southern Indian state of Kerala, freshers were stripped naked by seniors as part of ragging at the Government Medical College in Manjeri.

21 MBBS students of the college have been placed under suspension pending an inquiry by the college authorities, reports say.

According to Manorama Online, the victims complained to principal that the seniors forced them to strip and clean toilets at the men's hostel attached to the hospital. They were also made to drink unhygienic water from the tap inside the toilet, they alleged.

On December 2, eight first-year students of the polytechnic at Nattakom were allegedly subjected to brutal ragging by a gang of senior students at the men's hostel of the college.

The five senior students, in which a first year student suffered kidney damage, have surrendered before police. Two students were seriously injured in the incident.

The accused allegedly forced the victim to consume liquor mixed with some harmful powder following six hours of brutal ragging which included hard physical exercises like push-ups.

Meanwhile, the state human rights commission has sought a report from the education department on the alleged ragging incident.
