In a video doing the rounds on social media, bare-chested Dr K Sudhakar can be seen with his hands tied behind his back, being dragged and beaten by the police. He was later taken to the Police station in an auto-rickshaw as people gathered on the road looked on.

Sudhakar, a doctor at the Nasrsipatnam government hospital, was suspended last month after he complained about the shoratge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits and N95 masks.0

Vizag Police commissoner, R.K Meena, alleged that Sudhakar was in a drunken state and was creating creating nuisance on the highway. "Sudhakar was in a drunken state and he behaved rudely with the police. He snatched the mobile phone from a constable and threw it away,” the commissioner told Hindustan Times. “The doctor is apparently suffering from some psychological problems,” he added.

However, the commissioner also told Hindustan times that the constable who is seen beating Sudhakar has now been suspended.

“We have sent him to King George Hospital for medical examination. After receiving the medical report, we shall book a case against Sudhakar under appropriate sections of Indian Penal Code,” the commissioner told Hindustan Times.

The opposition Telugu Desam Party and CPI condemned the incident, calling it an example of the law and order situation in the state.
