In patients suffering from diabetes, researchers investigated the trend of dyslipidemia as well as scope of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk attenuation resulting from lipid management. This study involved 971 patients, in whom the prevalence of hyperlipidemia was estimated to be 40.0%; 14.6% of these were newly diagnosed. Higher LDL cholesterol concentrations were identified as being related to higher A1C and fasting blood glucose values. An LDL cholesterol level ≥ 100 mg/dL was detected in 42.6% of patients being managed with statins. Findings revealed that high LDL cholesterol was the main lipid abnormality in South Indian patients with type 2 diabetes and fair glycemic control. If the knowledge practice gap is addressed in this population, a huge potential for ASCVD risk reduction exists .
