There have been zero coronavirus deaths reported in London hospitals for the second day running.

This is a far cry from the grim days in April, at the height of the pandemic, when over 200 people were dying daily.
A vaccine for the deadly virus has not yet been produced so these optimistic figures shows the extent that lockdown measures have worked.

Londoners spent months not seeing friends and family, while adapting to the new pandemic way of life. And today's announcement shows it has paid off.

These figures show the number of people who have died in hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.

It does not necessarily mean that the deaths, or lack of them in this case, happened in the previous 24 hours as sometimes in takes a few days for hospitals to announce them.

This is because next of kin have to be informed and tests run.

For well over a month now the daily reported deaths from coronavirus have been in the single figures. The last double digit number of deaths was on Jun 9 with 17 deaths announced.

Every death is a tragedy and thousands of Londoners have died during this pandemic.

According to a spokesperson for the Mayor of London: "The total number of deaths in London hospitals of patients who had tested positive for COVID-19 is now 6,125. The total number of deaths in London hospitals where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate is now 214."
