I awake each day, looking for the sunlight to brighten my life, just as you may do.

I wonder who I will meet today who might have an impact on my life, just as it may be for you.

I organize in my mind my “to do” list for the day … all the things that I will try to accomplish, promising my best effort, just like you.

I whisper a prayer that I may be of help today to those less fortunate than I, just as you might.

There are people in my life who depend upon me and look to me for encouragement as they find their way in this life, just as you may have.

I listen to others’ cares and concerns, with the hope that any words I speak may be of help, just as you do.

Sometimes I feel the weight of the world lays heavily upon my shoulders, just as it may for you.

There are pressures and stressors in my life that try my inner spirit, just as you may have.

At times I feel alone, even though I am surrounded by others, just as may happen to you.

I feel worn down at times, wondering if tomorrow will be better than today, just as you might feel.

Sometimes I feel that my wishes evaporate into the air, my voice calling for change goes unheard, just as you may feel.

I tell myself that I am strong even though at times I feel weak, just as you may do.

When loss visits me, I shed tears, just as you may do.

When I lay my head on my pillow at night, I think about all the things I could have done better, just as you might.

I am afraid at times, but I tell myself to push through, just as you may do.

I am a human being composed of strengths and frailties, just as you are.

Sometimes I make mistakes; I try to learn from them and move forward, just as you hopefully do.

Me is who I am. No more, no less. There are the good parts and the not-so-good parts which make me a unique individual in this world, just as you are.

I am your patient; you are my doctor. I come to you when my health causes me to take notice. I look to you for answers, for advice. To make things better. But I realize that all things can not always be fixed. And I know this troubles you. I know you make use of all your years of training and experience to help those under your care. You do your best. And that is all any patient can expect of you. Please listen to my story and acknowledge my presence as I will do for you.

Me is who I am. You are who you are. We share many similarities as we both travel on this life journey. Together we make quite a team. May the Lord carry us in His loving hands and refresh our spirit.
