Teens are known for being emotional—but sometimes their ups and downs are about more than just feeling a little sad or anxious. For the first time in a decade, the American Academy of Pediatrics is issuing new guidelines on depression in teenagers in the hopes that children might be diagnosed and get help sooner. The guidelines recommend doctors take the initiative and actively talk about mental health with their adolescent patients and accompanying parents.
