Noninvasive Evaluation Of Liver Fibrosis: Comparison Of The Stretched Exponential Diffusion-Weighted

For the staging of liver fibrosis, this study assessed the diagnostic performance of the stretched exponential model vs other diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) models and transient elastography (TE) and evaluated the influence of confounding factors. Researchers performed a retrospective study including a total of 78 consecutive patients who underwent both DWI and TE. Applying spearman’s correlation and multiple regression analysis, relationships between imaging parameters and pathological fibrosis, inflammation, and steatosis were assessed. Via the Obuchowski measures, the diagnostic accuracy of parameters for fibrosis staging were evaluated. This study’s findings revealed that the distributed diffusion coefficient from the stretched exponential model is the most accurate DWI parameter with no confounding effect from steatosis and with overall comparable diagnostic performance to TE.
