PASS RATE : USMLE VS PLAB

    This article brings forth the average pass rate of various examination international medical graduate would have to pass through before practicing in some countries(UK & US). Without PLAB you can't practice in United Kingdom and without passing USMLE examination you can get placement in US residency program or practice as a medical doctor there.

    PLAB- Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board test
    These is the main method how International Medical graduates not citizen of European Union and Switzerland and graduate from med school out of these zone are access for their eligibility to practice in United Kingdom. It is also meant for citizen who graduated from med school.The test is conducted by General Medical Council(GMC).

    USMLE®-United States Medical Lisencing Examination
    USMLE is sponsored by Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®). The examination is three steps to access capacity and competence of physician intend to practice in US.

    Average pass rate at first attempt(2009-2013) of PLAB
    Part 1 First Takers average pass rate is 45.6%(2009-2013)
    Part 2 First Takers average pass rate is 68.9%(2009-2013)

    USMLE Step 1 First Takers average pass rate is 74.5% (2012-2013)
    USMLE Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) First Takers average pass rate is 84.5% (2012-2013)

    USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) First Takers average pass rate is 80.5% (2012-2013)

    It pass rate of USMLE at each stage certainly appears higher but has higher number of steps to the end-point. Good luck to those that would take the plunge this year.
