Among 364 Chinese hospitalized chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, researchers performed this cross-sectional analysis to determine personal growth as well as its associated factors. Demographic information was obtained and the Growth Through Uncertainty Scale, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and the modified Medical Research Council dyspnoea scale were used. Findings revealed that a moderate level of personal growth was reported by COPD patients in China. Significant factors related to personal growth included educational level, average monthly income, social support, and breathlessness. Awareness among medical workers regarding the level of personal growth in COPD patients is advised and they should implement customized interventions to facilitate COPD patients’ personal growth, such as increasing social support and decrease breathlessness.
