A hi-tech hospital for women and children in the world’s richest country is recruiting British staff with a passion for innovation Thousands of expats are being sought to work at a state-of-the-art medical centre for women and children in Doha, Qatar. The Sidra Medical and Research Center, due to open early next year, is the first of its kind in the Middle East. It will offer groundbreaking research, education and health care for women and children locally and across the Gulf. The ultra-modern centre has been backed by a $7.9 billion (£4.6bn) endowment from the non-profit Qatar Foundation. It will be equipped with “smart beds” that keep patients moving to prevent pressure sores,automatic guided vehicles (AVs) to transport goods around the hospital and palm-scanning technology to store patient records. More than 5,000 people will be employed there, including 2,000 nurses, 600 doctors, 800 other health care professionals plus managers and support staff. Around 14 per cent of the staff hired so far are British. Dr Tim McDonald, the chief of anaesthesiology at Sidra, who is working on the recruitment drive, said: “We’re looking for world-class staff who are committed to research and education, as we will be educating the next generation in Qatar. source
