-Be polite to everyone in the O.R

-Be honest about your experience level if you are asked a question.

-Ask questions! They are expected from you, so get the most out of the education and experience you're given.

-Keep a log of all surgeries you have attended and note your role in them.

-Volunteer to help. If someone will train you once in an O.R. procedure, you'll be considered a great help in every case you attend.

-The stress level in the operating theater is often very high and tempers can flare. Don't take anything said or done there personally. This is not always easy, especially if a surgeon or other staff member treats you with little respect.

-Be aware of sterile fields. If you accidently break one, don't freak out. Let someone in the staff place a sterile towel on the field and/or change your gown.

-Be sure to slightly bend your knees while standing; this should help you to avoid feeling light-headed.

-Above all... have a great time! Only a small percentage of the world's population will ever have an experience like this. Make the most of it!
