Many of us take the "simple things" in life for granted, as we get caught up in the busyness of the day. Our loved ones, our jobs, our homes, and especially our health - all too often, we appreciate these blessings the most...after we've lost them. One woman from Huntington, NY had never in her life known what "good health" felt like. She never had the "luxury" of feeling able-bodied, carefree, and unimpaired. Throughout her childhood, Dana Anhalt was always sick - and sadly, by the age of 37 her tired body finally began to shut down. Dana had suffered from a variety of unexplained ailments, conditions, aches and pains since she was young - and even after a lifetime of intense testing, doctors were left completely baffled as to the reason for her debilitating symptoms. Dana's mother shared on their GoFundMe page, "My daughter Dana has been increasingly ill since she was a child. Her symptoms eluded diagnosis for decades and got so severe that she became bedridden with full body pain. Terrible neuropathy left her unable to use her hands, even for simple tasks. She could barely walk. Her jaw nearly swelled shut. For many years now, she's been isolated and imprisoned in a body that can hardly move, type, chew or speak." This beautiful artist was living her life "imprisoned in a body" which held her back, kept her in constant pain, and forced her to remain in bed. Despite Dana's visits to nearly 100 doctors - sadly, she was left without a definitive answer to her lifelong struggle. Her mom went on to say, "At many points in her 30's, she weighed only 70 lbs. Doctors in the most prestigious hospitals in the country told her nothing could be done...to "keep herself comfortable" with morphine as she waited to die." Finally, after years of pain and suffering, a diagnosis was made. Dana had lived her entire life in one home - a home which was literally "poisoning her to death from the inside out." Dana's mother explained, "We discovered she's been living in a covert black mold infestation for 35 years." She then continued to share, "Doctors ordered her to leave her home, take no possessions, buy industrial strength HEPA equipment, and completely restock her home with 100% non-toxic, organic/natural furniture, products and items. Dana is a deeply sentimental person. She hasn't yet begun to mourn the loss of a lifetime of letters, gifts, family heirlooms, collections, artwork, artifacts, handmade projects, journals, etc." Dana not only suffered a good portion of her youth with this terrible illness - but she was now going to lose the memories she'd spent her entire life collecting. Dana is a fighter, and has overcome struggles which most of us couldn't begin to fathom. She is getting better, slowly but surely - and continues to push forward day-by-day, while continuing to receive intensive detox treatments. "Through all of this pain, frustration and loss, Dana has never played the victim. She's been a source of selfless light, compassion, creativity and wicked sharp wit. Everyone feels cherished, validated, understood and loved in her presence." This beautiful woman, inside and out - now has the chance at the beautiful life she deserves. Dana's health updates are available on her GoFundMe page. Exposure to mold can be dangerous, debilitating, and in some cases - even deadly.
