b/l erb's palsy + facial palsy on the left side.

Possible mechanism - i think this was a labor complicated by shoulder dystocia, so forceps must have been applied. The forceps must have impinged on the facial nerve peripheraly resulting in the facial palsy on the left side (the corner of the mouth is drooping ).

The b/l shoulder dystocia can be explained by the following
    - conducted by a lady who was in labor herself ( so obviously in a hurry )
    - conducted by a novice
    - conducted at a place that has high traffic and or not enough resources, becos in such difficult cases, C -section is the norm (-:

    Amen

P.S : I recommend the following textbook - Physiotherapy Home Programmes for Children With Motor Delay, 4 any body who wishes to have an insight on how to help these children. Of course, most of such cases get better within 1 year, but a little bit of help from those at home, gives better and faster results.
