Going to medical school is great, but you shouldn’t go broke in the process. Then again, Mom and Dad may be more than happy to pay $250,000 for the right to brag about their child “the doctor” to all their friends, so why not go for the most pricey med school on the planet?

Whatever your situation, I can’t decide for you, but what I can do is tell you which med schools in the U.S. are the least, and most expensive.

The power of choice, people. Enjoy!

Least Expensive Medical Schools (Prices reflect in-state tuition for 2013-2014)

    6. (BONUS!) University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ($19,446)

UNC narrowly missed out on making the top five, but due to its number two ranking for primary care medical schools and impressive reputation earned it a spot on AlmostDocs’ canonical list.

Ah, the Lobos. What is a Lobo anyway? A lobo is basically a timber wolf, but when tuition’s cheap, who cares?!

    4. University of North Texas Health Science Center ($19,022)

At the University of North Texas Health Science Center, you can save a bundle and use the extra money to go to some Cowboys games.

    Texas, again…You don’t say!

    2. Texas A&M Health Science Center ($16,404)

    Texas, Texas, Texas. I think there’s a trend here…

If you’re looking for affordability in a medical school, then pack your bags and head on down to the Lone Star State. They say that everything is bigger in Texas–guess that doesn’t apply to medical school bills!

Most Expensive Medical Schools (Prices reflect tuition for 2014-2015 school year)

    5. Northwestern University ($56,212)

This scenic Chicagoan university is a great place to get your medical degree from, but a pretty penny, you’ll pay.

    4. Case Western Reserve University ($57,050)

This one is a surprise, considering there are plenty of folks out there who don’t even know what Case Western is! If nothing else, they’re now known for being one of the most expensive medical schools in the country. Go Spartans?

    3. Dartmouth University ($60,468)

Another Ivy Leaguer, Dartmouth University’s Geisel School of Medicine climbed into the $60k range. Want to be part of the “Big Green” crew? Great! We’ll get started by emptying your purse on the table and cracking open that piggy bank from your fourth birthday.

    2. Columbia University ($61,145)

Want to attend this elite institution and be in the heart of New York City? Better start saving…for your grandchildren, that is. Estimated cost for a first-year med student at Columbia is $61,145…before housing. Slap on an extra $20,000+ for living expenses and $2,500 for books and supplies. The school’s website estimates that your first year (which will be your cheapest there) will run you a hefty $82,737. Did someone say student loans?

    1. Tufts University ($61,436)

A great school in a great city, but it doesn’t come cheap, and Tufts takes the cake for the priciest medical school in the nation. Estimated first-year costs for Tufts’ MD track will cost you $82,330, roughly the same price as a 2013 Range Rover. Thanks for the car, Mom and Dad! Too bad it comes in the form of a short white coat and a pile of textbooks.
