A nice looking, healthy tan doesn't necessarily require tanning cremes, in fact according to the latest study from the The University of Nottingham you can give your skin a healthy tan by eating lots of fruits and vegetables. If you want a healthy golden glow of your skin then vegetables and fruits might just be the thing you look for.

Plenty of people choose suntan as the best option to improve their skin color but this latest research has proved that vegetables and fruits are more effective ally than sun in acquiring the nice looking, healthy tan.

Fruits and vegetables have extremely positive effect on our skin because of the antioxidants called carotenoids. These antioxidants soak up damaging compounds produced by the stresses and strains of everyday living, and are especially helpful in times when the body is combating disease and they are also quite helpful for our immune and reproductive systems.

Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables are the basics of every healthy diet, and knowing that your skin will have better look is nice bonus.

The most recommended vegetables and fruits for your skin are tomatoes and carrots because they have the largest amounts of carotenoids.

The results of this study were published in the Journal Evolution and Human Behaviour.
