Nov. 1 is a historic day for women in medicine, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. On Nov. 1, 1848, the U.S.' first medical school for women, the Boston Female Medical School, opened its doors. The school's first class only had 12 students and two faculty members. A quarter century later, the school had graduated nearly 100 students. In 1873, the institution joined forces with the Boston University School of Medicine to create one of the first coed medical learning facility in the world. Source
