To be honest, in China, being a medical students itself, especially when you don't have a wealthy family background, brings you enough regrets, most of which come come from NHFPC, the National Health and Family Planning Commision. What exactly did they do? I'm sure you all know about our huge population. With this kind of population base combined with our not-so-satisfying sanitary condition in many of the rural area, you can imagine how many sick people our doctors have to deal with everyday. However, this should be considered as a much easier problem, compared with the rest. Let's get into the topic of the current medical environment in China, lead by the NHFPC. For doctors, in a word, their hard work is not getting enough return, financially and mentally. Their income is really not so decent considering their overload work. And guess what, some gray money is included in this not-so-good incomes. (Please don't judge, they have no choice. After all, during all these years, being one of the top students among their peers, they still have to sometimes do that just in order to have a relatively decent life. Isn't this kind of pathetic for a society?) What's worse, doctors' personal security is in danger nowadays. If you pay attention to our country's recent news, you'll be surprised by how many doctors get hurt or even killed by some patient's families with some untrue or even ridiculous reasons. I'm not gonna give examples, because it's just heart-broken to recall. With the development of Internet, many people, especially those without much education, choose to believe what their smart phones tell them and what they heard from, you know, some guy once had some disease, instead of a real doctor. Then they will get suspicous about the doctor's treatment for them, once it goes a slightly different from what they expect it to go, they got angry, especially when it comes to children or pregnant women. That is why pediatrician, emergency doctor, obstetrician and gynaecologist are in extreme danger under those circumstances, which I'll talk about later. Here comes to the earlier question, what did the NHFPC do to improve this situation? Nothing, at least no wise and effective measures. I can give some examples on this one. Doctors getting hurt by patients? Let's pretend we don't know. Doctors wanting more salaries? Well, not from us, and not from patients( I mean not directly from patients...you get it right?) Still can't get enough money to lead a slightly more decent life? I don't care and don't you dare come to me, I'll let you medical students get a several years of training, and another several years. Of course, with a surprisingly low income and a high tuition still. So, no students wants to go to pediatrics and ED? Simple! We just need to lower the enrollment qualification! What? Still lack pediatricians due to unimaginable workload and insecurity and low income? We can make physician internist to supplement! ...etc... I am a sophomore student right now. I feel lost about my future career, as well as my other classmates. For students like us, it's still a long way to go. Source
