Suzanne Watson was a 50-year-old pastor at an Episcopal church near San Diego when she began classes at Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest School of Medicine, according to Fox 8. "I received my AARP card and my med school acceptance the same week," she said, according to the report. This isn't the first time she's been enrolled in medical school. Ms. Watson took medical school classes 25 years ago, but withdrew after she became pregnant. Yet throughout her nearly 20 years serving as a pastor, she held onto her dream of becoming a physician. Her decision to re-enroll came after the tragic death of her husband, a physician. "He ended up taking his own life and it was really the experience of losing a spouse that finally propelled me to want to return to medical school and to pursue psychiatry," Ms. Watson said. With four children between the ages of 18 and 24, Ms. Watson's journey through medical school hasn't been easy, but she's officially scheduled to graduate in May and begin her residency program in July. "If a person wants something badly enough, they can really truly make it happen," she said. Source
