Soccer is the most popular sport in the world.

Here in North America and especially in Canada, there is a tendency to focus more on other sports, but there’s no doubt who reigns supreme across the globe. Don’t believe us? Just watch the video below in which Chilean doctors are watching and celebrating during the Chile vs. Portugal game.

Of course, it’s not surprising to see people supporting their team, but doing it while performing what looks like surgery is not at all comforting.

Now, the game was a pretty big deal. Chile advanced to their third straight Confederations Cup and it was in thrilling fashion – penalties against Portugal. Claudio Bravo somehow stopped three Portugal penalties elated Chilean doctors everywhere.

We’ve seen schools, workplaces and many other places shutdown for hockey and Olympic events in Canada, but we don’t think it’s ever reached this level.

While their commitment to the sport is admirable, we can’t imagine watching soccer is a recommended activity during surgery.
