Doctors are rich, right ? well, it depends on the specialty.

While the money should not be the primary reason to go to medical school, it is an important factor that can't be neglected.

Doctors salary is increasing from year to year because of the aging population who is in constant need for healthcare, but which doctors are making the most ?

The data may change a little bit from a survey to another, this one is from https://www.payscale.com/

    1-Orthopedic surgeon: 570000$
Such specialists treat problems in the musculo-skeletal system caused by traumas, congenital conditions, cancer, infections, and degenerative diseases. They set broken bones, repair injured tendons, replace damaged joints and surgically remove tumors

    2-Plastic surgeon: 552000$

They tend to improve the life quality for burn patients, birth defects, natal injuries and even patient dealing with cancer as some cancer surgeries may alter the patient's appearance. Some plastic surgeons focus only on the cosmetic surgery where they can reshapes normal body parts for aesthetic reasons such as: facelifts, rhinoplasty, and breast augmentation

    3-Gastroenterolgist: 512000$

Gastroenterologists focus on the health of the digestive system, or the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, they can treat everything from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) to hepatitis C.

    4-Urologist: 479000$
Such specialists treat numerous diseases including urinal tract and bladder infections, incontinence, difficulty urinating, kidney stones, male infertility, and enlarged prostate. These problems are becoming more and more common among the male gender in our world today

    5-Cardiologist: 464000$

By using diagnostic and therapeutic tools that are inserted directly into the patient's body to treat heart disease (angioplasty, pacemaker and defibrillator insertion, cardiac ablation ...) those doctors must literally keep the heart of their patients in their hands

    6-Otolaryngologist: 434000$

Specialized in treating diseases related to ear, nose and throat they are called ENT doctors. They are qualified to diagnose, treat ailments and also perform surgeries that's why they are on the list of the top 10 highest paying specialties

    7-Radiologist: 429000$

As a result of the growing knowledge and levels of technology in the field, radiology has become highly specialized and the salary can be even higher for those who choose a subspecialty like radiation oncology or ultrasonography

    8-Oncologist: 415000$

Specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. They can also use chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgical removal.

    9-Anesthesiologist: 409000$

By making sure that the patients that are undergoing surgery are pain free and by monitoring their vital function along the surgery anesthesiologists can even administrate pain relief medications to patients who are suffering from chronic pain of various type including headaches, burns and herpes.

    10-Dermatologist: 398000$

They treat skin infections, allergies, eczema and all other types of skin problems from acne to cancer. It’s a job that's always in demand and can be very flexible if you have your own practice that's why certain dermatologist can also perform cosmetic procedures such as laser surgery, excisions of unwanted skin conditions, liposuction, chemical peels, and dermal fillers injections.

I am sure that you are already demanding why those specific specialties are in the list and not others ? Actually it depends on so many factors but the one thing that they have all in common is the fact that they are all using different types of procedures which are highly compensated

On the opposite side we have noticed that the lowest compensated specialties are not procedural focused:
    Internal medicine: 230000$
    Family medicine: 219000$
    Diabetes and endocrinology: 212000$
    Pediatrics: 212000$
Public health and preventive medicine: 199000$

There are several other factors beyond specialty choice that can significantly sway the average compensation of a doctor:
    Location
Practice type ( private practice / employed )
Years of experience , gender and so many others

I hope that the salary of each specialty won't change your decision about which field you want to pursue and i want to note that getting into these top 10 specialties is insanely competitive and you need to have the right qualifications to make it that's why you need to choose the specialty that passionate you the most !
