There has been no change in the top two US hospitals for adult psychiatric care, although they did flip positions this year. According to the 2019–2020 US News and World Report annual ranking, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston was ranked number 2 in last year's report but rose to number 1 this year, edging out McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, which held the number 1 spot last year and now sits in the number 2 position. Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, is number 3 this year, moving up one spot from last year. New York–Presbyterian University Hospital–Columbia and Cornell, New York City, takes the number 4 spot this year, down one from last year. The Menninger Clinic, Houston, Texas, holds the number 5 spot again this year. The rankings highlight hospitals delivering "exceptional treatment across multiple areas of care," the magazine says. "This year we revised the methodology to incorporate new measures of patient-centered care and to enhance how we account for differences in hospitals' patient populations. The new model provides a more comprehensive assessment that is useful to patients, families and their medical professionals," said Harder. Owing to the changes in methodology this year, US News advises against making comparisons to past rankings. Overall, across all specialties, US News named Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, as the top hospital on the honor roll for the fourth consecutive year, followed by Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, and New York–Presbyterian Hospital–Columbia and Cornell, New York. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center continues to be the best hospital for cancer, and the Hospital for Special Surgery is number one in orthopedics. The 2019–2020 rankings involved comparisons of more than 4500 hospitals across 25 specialties, procedures, and conditions. This year, 165 hospitals were nationally ranked in at least one specialty (compared to 158 last year), and 569 hospitals were ranked among the best regional hospitals in a state or metro area on the basis of their performance in delivering complex and common care. The rankings are produced by US News with RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
