UK: Hospital Worker Stabbed In A&E By Knifeman

    Officers arrested the attacker a short while after the early morning incident.

    A female worker was today stabbed repeatedly with a pair of scissors inside a hospital A&E.

    Police were called to the scene at Newham University Hospital following reports of an emergency department assistant being knifed.

    The male suspect aged 27 was arrested on suspicion of GBH at the scene and the victim’s injuries were assessed as non-life threatening.

    Shane Degaris, deputy group chief executive of Barts Health NHS Trust, said to The Sun that the victim has since been discharged.

    He said: ‘This was a shocking and senseless attack on a member of staff doing their duty.

    Police have been called to the scene at Newham University Hospital following reports of an emergency department assistant being knifed.

    ‘The Trust condemns any form of violence and aggression against our dedicated and hard-working staff.’

    ‘In the light of this incident we are reviewing security at all our hospitals to ensure the safety of all our staff and patients at all times.’
