For the treatment of obsessive‐compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms, researchers here examined the efficacy of an unguided internet‐based cognitive‐behavioral therapy (iCBT) that includes third‐wave approaches. They randomly allocated 128 individuals with self‐reported OCD symptoms to either an intervention group (unguided iCBT) or to a care‐as‐usual control group after an anonymous baseline assessment via an online survey. A significantly stronger decrease in OCD symptoms was noted in the iCBT group with a medium effect size vs the control condition. The general frequency of internet usage was identified as moderating this effect; the more time per day users spent online, the less they benefited from the intervention. Overall outcomes support the possible utility of unguided iCBT for OCD for individuals who experience treatment barriers.
