    The US surpassed 4 million coronavirus cases on Thursday, just two weeks after it surpassed 3 million cases.

    According to John Hopkins University, at least 4,021,000 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the US as of Thursday. CNN reported that the US surpassed 3 million cases on July 8.

    The rate of infection has continued to grow since the beginning of the pandemic. It took 99 days after the first case was reported on January 21 for the US to surpass its first million cases, CNN reported.

    It surpassed 2 million cases, 43 days after that, and 3 million just 28 days after that

    As of Thursday, close to 144,000 coronavirus related deaths have been recorded.

    The main model used to estimate the impact of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States now says the US is likely to hit 219,864 by 1 November 2020, based on current trends.

    On Wednesday, the US had its second day of recording over 1,100 coronavirus deaths in a row. The last time COVID-19 deaths surpassed 1,000 a day was in May.
