"No single job suits all of us, but many of the best ones have a few attributes in common: They pay well, challenge us year after year, match our talents and skills, aren't too stressful, offer room to advance throughout our careers and provide a satisfying work-life balance. Whether the position is in demand is also a consideration, especially among job seekers," the magazine explains in the report.

US News used those qualities to rank the 100 best jobs of 2019.

Software developer and statistician hold the number 1 and 2 spots, respectively, just edging out physician assistant at number 3 and dentist at number 4. Nurse anesthetist and orthodontist are tied at number 5, followed by nurse practitioner (7) and pediatrician (8), while obstetrician/gynecologist, oral and maxillofacial surgeon, physician, and prosthodontist are all tied at number 9.
