In 1938, Lina Medina became the youngest girl in history to give birth. The Peruvian girl was just five years old, seven months, and 21 days.

Medina's parents took her to the doctor when her belly became swollen.
The parents thought she had a stomach tumor, but shockingly, doctors found that she was pregnant.

Authorities arrested Medina's father on suspicion of rape and incest. He was later released due to lack of evidence.

It is now thought that Medina may have been raped in an indigenous village during an Andean festival.
During the festivals, orgies and rape were alarmingly common.

Dr. Gerardo Lozada delivered the baby through a caesarean section. The baby weighed 6 pounds and was healthy.

Medina named the child Gerardo after the doctor who delivered him. Medina's son grew up and died at the age of 40. Medina had one other child when she was much older in 1972. That son is still living.

Medina is now 83 years old and continues to shun the media. She has not disclosed who the father of her child is and chances are, she never will.
